Each year Queensland welcomes thousands of international students to Queensland Government schools as part of our Group Study Tours program. Operating since 1990, EQI has a long history of arranging successful, high quality study tour programs for students from all over the world. With over 8800 participants in 2004, EQI is currently one of Australia 's leading study tour providers.

EQI Study Tours are a fun and effective way to improve English conversation skills through interaction with Aussie families and students while exploring some of the many wonderful attractions of Queensland.

These tours provide international and Australian students with a unique opportunity to meet, study and share knowledge with each other and to form international friendships and networks.

WHAT IS A STUDY TOUR?
Experience the fun of studying alongside a Queensland government school student buddy in an inspiring, innovative learning environment. Enjoy the adventure of exploring Queensland’s tropical, natural beauty at the world famous Barrier Reef, gorgeous rainforests or the diverse environment of the Aussie outback! Or take in a fun excursion to an exciting range of places such as Movieworld or Dreamworld and cuddle cute koalas at the Australia Zoo and many other delightful animal sanctuaries.
Study Tours provide an opportunity for groups of school students to experience Australian culture while studying with Australian students and staying in a host family environment.
Study Tours can range between half a day to 4 weeks in duration and combine exciting educational, tourism and cultural exchange activities.

Introduction

Operating since 1990, Education Queensland International, the international unit of the Queensland government’s Department of Education and the Arts, has had a long history of arranging successful, high quality Study Tour programs for groups of international students. With over 7700 international students participating in our popular study tours in 2004, Queensland is currently one of Australia’s leading study tour providers.

Representing over 360 primary and secondary schools throughout Queensland, Education Queensland International offers a wide range of program options that can be tailored to suit the specific needs of each group.

Education Queensland International can arrange all components of the program or, can coordinate selected components of a program as required.

A Study Tour may include some or all of the following:

School integration
• Participation in regular classes at school
• Sport and other extracurricular options
• Opportunities for international and local students to participate in culture sharing activities
• All of our participating schools are Queensland government accredited and international students can be assured that they obtain high quality studies in an innovative learning environment.

English lessons
• Special curriculum developed by Education Queensland
• Lessons delivered by professional teachers
• Tailored to suit different English levels

Other lessons
• Studies in other subjects such as marine biology, aviation, sports, environmental studies, and leadership can also be arranged

Homestay
• Caring environment
• Students are provided with three meals per day
• A host family member will accompany students to and from school
• Host families are carefully selected from within the school community by trained school staff

Buddy System
• Each visiting student has a school buddy
• Buddies are often members of the host family
• Opportunity to develop friendships

Excursions
• Explore world famous beaches, rainforests and the outback
• See some of Australia’s unique wildlife:
- cuddle koalas
- feed dolphins
- pat kangaroos
• Enjoy outdoor adventure programs
• Visit exciting theme parks
• Experience Australian Aboriginal culture

Support Services
• 24 hour emergency contact
• Multi-lingual staff
• Pre-departure orientation for students and parents
• Fully supervised programs
• Airport reception

Accreditation
• School staff trained in cross-cultural awareness
• All host schools are trained and accredited to deliver Study Tour programs
• All host families attend pre-arrival training seminars


Monday
Arrival at International Airport. An Education Queensland representative will welcome the group. Transfer by coach to host school.Official welcome to host school by principal. Students will receive a tour of school facilities and program orientation before meeting school buddy to enjoy welcome refreshments together.
Lunch will be provided by the school.Students will experience the Queensland education system by joining their buddy in a regular school class. Now it is time to meet and say G’Day to homestay families! Travel home with host family and get to know each other.

Tuesday
English lesson. A registered Queensland teacher will introduce students to a range of interesting and enjoyable topics including, Australian culture, wildlife, family life and conversation skills.
Students have an opportunity to practice their English skills with native speakers during an excursion with their teacher. Brisbane Based Programs: Visit Southbank Parklands, Queensland museum and Brisbane City shopping Mall.Cairns Based Programs: Visit Cairns Esplanade and enjoy a swim in the ocean front lagoon, walk through the Rainforest Dome and view colourful birdlife, crocodiles, koalas and other Aussie animals.

Wednesday
English lesson and preparation for your excursion adventure tomorrow!
Participate in regular school program with local students.

Thursday
Brisbane Based Programs: Visit one of the many exciting Gold Coast Theme Parks only a short drive from Brisbane. Movieworld, Seaworld and Dreamworld are a few of the options on this full day of fun and excitement. Cairns Based Programs: Travel over the treetops on the Skyrail to Kuranda and spend the day exploring the sights of this historic village before heading down the mountain on the Kuranda Scenic Railway passing through tropical rainforest, past waterfalls and rugged mountains.

English lesson
Participate in regular school program with local students.

Saturday
Free day at leisure with homestay family.

Sunday
Free day at leisure with homestay family.

Monday
English lesson
Participate in regular school program with local students.

Tuesday
Brisbane Based Programs: Visit Australia Zoo, home of Steve Irwin the Crocodile Hunter. Come to face to face with crocodiles, koalas and kangaroos. Cairns Based Programs: Take the ‘Big Cat’ Catamaran to Green Island for a day of snorkeling and exploring the Great Barrier Reef.

Wednesday
English lesson
Participate in regular school program with local students.

Thursday
English lesson and preparation for farewell party presentation.
Enjoy a farewell party with host buddies before taking part in a farewell ceremony including presentation of certificates and cultural performances. Time to say “See ya later” to new found friends.

Friday
Host families will deliver students to school in preparation for departure. Coach transfer to airport and return home.
