LOCATION

Governor Stirling Senior High School is situated on the picturesque banks of the Swan River approximately 20 kilometres from the Perth city centre and near all public transport routes.

The school is located on the doorstep of the Midland business area and at the gateway to the historic Swan Valley region. Nearby bus and train stations make the school easily accessible.

The school is close to Midland Gate and Centrepoint shopping centres, cinemas, food halls and major retail outlets. Recreational facilities of the area include sporting fields, the Swan Recreational Centre and the river.

Governor Stirling Senior High School has an outstanding record of ensuring all students are motivated to excel through the provision of the many high quality and innovative educational programs that continue to be developed.

Governor Stirling Senior High School has had international students from China and Hong Kong and has exchange programs with schools in Japan and China. International students at Governor Stirling Senior High School may board at the Swanleigh Residential College. Students are bused directly between the residential college and the school.

The boarding fee at Swanleigh is $10,920 per annum. Sporting facilities at the school include a hall/gymnasium, squash courts, grass and hard surface tennis courts, three ovals and fields for hockey, football and cricket. The school has a strong outdoor education program using the river for canoeing, kayaking and swimming.

The school has a dance studio and a stunning amphitheatre overlooking the river which is also used for student performances. Governor Stirling Senior High School offers a wide range of university and vocational courses. It is the leading school in the Swan Education District with students scoring continually at or above the state average in subjects leading into university courses. The success of graduates from the school in their first year at university studies is above average. The quality of science courses and information technology resources is such that these courses are provided to other schools in the state through video conferencing. The school has won an international award for teleconferencing against competitors which included the US Navy.

Students from the school have won the International Science Olympiad. Governor Stirling Senior High School offers a strong business, hospitality and tourism program. Students run a restaurant on the school site and also coordinate a well attended playgroup for three and four year olds.

The design and technology prevocational workshop area is generously equipped and enables the development of skills in motors and machines, producing students whose knowledge and skills are well respected by businesses in the local community.

Students wanting vocational training complete traineeships in conjunction with the Swan TAFE’s Midland Campus. Governor Stirling Senior High School has a strong affiliation with the University of New South Wales with several students having won scholarships to study there. The school also runs a naval cadet program and a number of graduates go on to study at the Australian Defence Forces Academy.

Past students have made successful careers in business, academia, education and the defence forces.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS
These programs are available to international fee paying students. Interested Students should contact the school for information about application procedures. 

  • Academic Talent (Years 8-10) is a DET-endorsed program which offers extension activities based on high order thinking and problem solving processes to gifted and talented students in the humanities, mathematics and science. Students are selected for this program based on their academic performance and teacher recommendation.
  • Dance (Years 8-10) offers students the opportunity to study various styles of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, Spanish and contemporary. Selection is by audition and interview.
  • Australian Rules Football (Years 8-12) provides training and skills development that not only enables students to become players at the elite level, but also enables them to seek employment opportunities as coaches, administrators, physical education teachers, health and fitness coordinators and recreation officers.



ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

Provision can be made to give support to international fee paying students if warranted.


STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

Governor Stirling Senior High School has a strong provision of pastoral care for students. The school is fully supported by a student services centre where professional staff include a student services coordinator, psychologist, chaplain, nurse, year coordinators and two career officers.
